Used or New Hyundai Elantra: A Car That Ensures Value for Money

Not that long ago, the South Korea-based car maker Hyundai had to face labor unrest over demands of increase in wages and extension of benefits, which had brought the car production at a standstill. Still, in 2011, the company had managed to create enough ripples by its newly launched fifth generation of Elantra (formerly known as Lantra). It is stylishly designed with an hourglass center console.

Till today, it stands out with its fluidic sculpture and neat looks. Despite some doubts initially, the Hyundai Elantra is now known for its class features and reliable performance. Due to its ample space, accurate handling and smooth ride, the car gives a tough competition to its contemporaries.

Buying a 2008 model is still a profitable deal

In one of the reviews of the 2008 Elantra, just after its launch, Orlando Sentinel declared “Witness the evolution of a winner.” Launched in ‘90s, the budget sedan was called shoddy and unreliable. However, with the introduction of all new safety features and stylish interiors, the car has driven a long road. Good looks, ample space and easy on the pocket price are the most celebrated features of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra. Redesigned in 2007, the car was available in two trims — GLS and SE. Both the models had their advantages and drawbacks. The GLS model, however, was considered to lack traction control and stability. On the other hand, the SE model had sport-tuned suspension with more added features.

The cars in this generation were fitted with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that was good for 136 lb-ft of torque and 138 hp. Moreover, the transmission was either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. With these features and power, no wonder this car is one of the top selling cars in the used and salvage segments. Talking about used and salvage cars available at an affordable price and rock-solid safety features, Hyundai Elantra is still a favorite at car auctions.

So what are the limitations?

The latest models have become much quieter with upgrades to their engine, but to achieve similar levels of noiseless drive in an older model salvage car, you will need comprehensive repairs. Of course, you cannot expect it to be as good as a brand new Elantra, but considering the value for money, this drawback easily fades away.

Buying a company certified pre-owned vehicle is preferred by many, but this variety of used car can never give as much value for money as a salvaged one can. You only need to put in a little bit of effort in finding an online salvage auction site and searching for an Elantra that can be used after affordable repairs. All things considered, the Hyundai Lantra will surely be a top choice among salvage cars.
