Throwback: A Quick Look at the 2004 Dodge Intrepid

salvage dodge cars for sale

The Dodge Intrepid is a full-sized, front-wheel-drive, four-door sedan built on Chrysler’s iconic ‘cab forward’ LH platform that was also used on various other models, such as the Chrysler 300M, Chrysler LHS, Chrysler New Yorker, Chrysler Concorde, and Eagle Vision. It’s design traces its roots to Kevin Verduyn’s 1986 aerodynamic concept sedan by the name of Navajo, which first saw life as the Lamborghini Portofino. You can still buy the 2004 Dodge Intrepid in our salvage auctions online. Let’s take a look back at the 2004 Dodge Intrepid.

Design

The 2004 Dodge Intrepid is part of the second generation and features no major changes from the previous year’s model. It features a cab-forward design, strong and stiff body shell, integrated side impact protection, double-shear suspension mounts, and plastic front-end intake vents that provide more cooling and stopping power by channeling air onto the rotors. The same year also saw the release of a rear-wheel drive Police Package that spots a unique styling such as small hub caps. Available trims for the 2004 Chrysler Intrepid include the SE, ES, and SXT, all of which have generous passenger and luggage capacity. Drawbacks of the design – such as blindspots when backing up – don’t take away the fact that it is a great choice whether you are looking for a stylish family sedan or a sport sedan on bargain.

Performance

The 2004 Dodge Intrepid was available in three engine options; a 2.7-Liter V6 that delivers 200 horsepower @5,800 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque @4,850 rpm (SE Trim), a 3.5-Liter HO V6 engine that is good for 244 horsepower @6,400 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque @3950 rpm (SXT Trim), and a 3.5-Liter HO V6 engine that can pump out up to 234 horsepower @6,000 rpm and 241 lb-ft of torque @4,400 rpm (ES Trim), delivering a combined fuel economy of 22 mpg, 19 mpg, or 20 mpg, respectively. The 2004 Chrysler Intrepid handles exceptionally well for a car of its size thanks to features such as its four-wheel independent suspension.
